HOW TO CREATE A WALL GALLERY
Picture
Layout by TheUnskilledBoy.com
Creating a beautiful gallery wall is easy and it's all about bringing your favourite pieces together to give some colour and dimension to your space. You don't have stick to one theme or colour. You can remix your collection with paintings, prints, framed photos, posters and sculptures on a table or cabinet.

Get Good Quality Frames / UV Filter Frames
Decide which artwork you want to frame, whether it's black, pine or coloured. Are the frames of different sizes? Purchase frames with solid surfaces with coating from a good frame maker. Avoid buying them at Ikea, where the brittle, thin surface is made of perspex (cheap plastic) which easily scratches, snaps during handling and transportation, and it's hard to clean to get a good, clear surface.

Standard framing may use less ideal mounting and framing techniques that could add irreversible damage to the art piece. Good framers use clear glass such as Tru Vue Conservation Clear® Glass, which blocks up to
99% of UV rays, no ripple or “orange peel” effect on the surface, proprietary coating is engineered for permanence, and premium 2.5mm thickness provides better strength and rigidity.

A good frame is an investment to protect the art pieces.

Measure up
Measure the space and take note of the number of art pieces you would like display. They can be photos, canvas paintings (with or without floating frames), picture frames, posters, paper art, and more. You can draw it on scale to get a rough idea how you would like to piece them together first. Remember to leave some space between each artwork. Once you are satisfied with paper-planning, you can start to place them together on the wall. Do take into consideration of the additional pieces you would like to add on later.

Materials
You'll need to gather a hammer, nails, and a pencil to make markings on the wall. Heavier pieces may need to be adhered using drywall mounts. Draw lightly on the walls where the corners of the frames will be. Measure and mark how much lower down the picture frame you want your nail holes. If you do not wish to damage the walls, use Command damage-free hanging which can take up to 2.2kg. It holds well and removes cleanly.

Switch it up
Your taste in artwork can change over time, and the gallery walls are easy to update. Play around with all the art placement for as long as you like, moving things around with confidence.
